As of 1 July 2026, if you send SMS to Australian numbers using a branded Sender ID, that Sender ID needs to be registered with ACMA. If it isn&#8217;t, the message can be relabelled &#8220;Unverified&#8221; on the recipient&#8217;s phone and grouped in with the other unverified messages&#8230; including scams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s the outcome we want to help you avoid. So here&#8217;s what Enfonica does differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>What &#8220;Unverified&#8221; actually means<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Register was created to make it harder for scammers to impersonate real businesses over SMS. From 1 July, the Australian mobile networks can overstamp any unregistered branded Sender ID with the word &#8220;Unverified&#8221; before it reaches the recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The message still sends. It still costs you. But your carefully chosen brand name is gone, replaced by a label that tells people not to trust it, and it may land in the same bucket as suspected scam messages. For a message you actually wanted read, that&#8217;s about the worst result possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>We stop the message before that happens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than let your messages go out stamped &#8220;Unverified&#8221;, Enfonica simply won&#8217;t send them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you try to send from an alphanumeric Sender ID to an Australian mobile, and that Sender ID isn&#8217;t registered to the Enfonica project you&#8217;re sending from, we block the message on our end. You&#8217;ll know straight away, instead of finding out after the fact when your campaign has already gone out looking untrustworthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We made this call deliberately, for two reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>It keeps you on the right side of the rules.<\/strong> Blocking unregistered branded messages is the safest, cleanest way to stay compliant with ACMA&#8217;s requirements: no grey areas and no relabelled messages slipping through.<\/li><li><strong>It protects your spend.<\/strong> Imagine sending a batch of 50,000 messages, only to have every one arrive as &#8220;Unverified&#8221; and quietly ignored. That&#8217;s a bill for messages nobody trusted or read. We&#8217;d rather stop that batch at the door than let you pay for it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of it as a safety net. If a Sender ID isn&#8217;t ready, we hold the message so you can fix it, not send it in a state that damages your brand and wastes your money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>This only affects branded Sender IDs to Australian numbers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you send from a standard phone number, nothing changes. The block only kicks in for alphanumeric (branded) Sender IDs going to Australian mobiles that aren&#8217;t registered to your project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Registering is quick in the Console<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The fix is simple: register your Sender IDs before you send. We&#8217;ve built the whole process into the Enfonica Console.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Open your project and go to Cloud SMS \u2192 Sender IDs.<\/li><li>Click Register Sender ID.<\/li><li>Tell us how the Sender ID links to your organisation (business name, company name, trademark or domain).<\/li><li>Nominate an authorised representative to confirm the registration with ACMA.<\/li><li>Submit, and track the status right there in the Console.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s a government identity step on ACMA&#8217;s side too (involving myID and your ABR details), so it pays to start early. If your Sender IDs are already registered, you&#8217;re set.
