How-to guide

Port your phone numbers to Enfonica

Short answer

Request the port in the Enfonica Console under Phone Numbers > Port-in requests. Enter the account number, name, and address exactly as your latest bill shows them, and attach the bill. Your numbers keep working with your current provider throughout, so keep that service until we confirm the port is complete.

Before you start

  • An Enfonica project for the numbers, with a regulatory listing for the business or person who will use them.
  • Your latest bill from your current provider, saved as a PDF.
  • Your account number with your current provider.
  • The numbers are still active with your current provider.

Check your details against your bill

Your current provider checks every port against its records for the account that the numbers belong to. The details in your request must match your latest bill exactly, and that bill must be no more than 60 days old. A detail that doesn't match is the most common reason that a port is rejected.

Check these details on your bill:

  • Account holder. The business or person named on the bill, spelled the same way. If the business has been sold or renamed, or the account is in a personal name, use the name on the bill.
  • ABN or ACN. The account holder's Australian Business Number or Australian Company Number.
  • Address. The account holder's address, as the bill shows it.
  • Account number. Your account number with your current provider, from the bill. If the bill doesn't show one, ask your provider for the account number to use when porting the numbers away.

If you buy your service through a reseller, use the reseller's bill and the details on it.

If the bill doesn't list every number you're porting, you can still request the port. Along with the bill, attach a screenshot of your provider's online account that shows the numbers, or a letter from your provider.

Request the port in the Console

A port takes about two minutes to request. Each request is for numbers from one provider. For numbers with a different provider, create a separate request.

To request a port:

  1. Sign in to the Enfonica Console, and open the project that the numbers should go to.
  2. Go to Phone Numbers > Port-in requests, and select Create request.
  3. In Request details, enter a Display name to help you find the request later, such as Office numbers.
  4. Choose when the port should happen. To take the soonest date, leave Port the number as soon as possible selected. To choose your preferred cutover date after the port is approved, clear it.
  5. Under Regulatory listing, select the business or person who will use the numbers. If they aren't listed, select Create new regulatory listing at the bottom of the list. For more information, see What is a regulatory listing?
  6. Under Phone numbers to port, select Add number for each number, or Add range for a block of numbers, such as +61255501230 to +61255501239.
  7. Select Next.
  8. In Current provider, enter the Provider name and your Account number with them.
  9. Under Authorised contact, enter the Given name, Family name, and Contact number of the person authorized to request the port.
  10. Under Supporting documents, select Add attachment. For the type, select Invoice, upload your bill, and then select Add. Add any screenshot or letter the same way, with the type Proof of ownership.
  11. Under Entity details, enter the Entity (Company / Business), the Identification number (ABN / ACN), and the address, exactly as the bill shows them.
  12. Select Next, and check the summary.
  13. Select Sign & submit, and sign the porting authority form when it opens. The Console confirms that the port-in request is signed and submitted.

Attach your bill as an Invoice before you sign. You can't submit the request without one, and every attachment must be a PDF. A prepaid mobile has no bill, so attach any document that shows you have the right to use the service instead.

The porting authority form (PAF) is the account holder's authority to move the numbers. You sign it in the Console as part of the request, so you don't need to send a separate form.

To finish later, select Save draft, and come back to the request.

Port numbers for a client

If you're an MSP or reseller porting numbers for a client, enter your own name and phone number under Authorised contact. Your agreement with your client should already authorize you to port their numbers. Signing the PAF extends that authority to Enfonica.

Everything else in the request is your client's, including the regulatory listing, the entity details, and the bill.

Mobile numbers

Mobile numbers, including eSIMs, port with the same request. First, check whether the service is postpaid or prepaid. A mix-up between the two is the most common reason that a mobile port is rejected.

  • Postpaid. Use the account number from your latest bill.
  • Prepaid. There's no account number, so the port is checked against the account holder's date of birth. In Account number, enter the account holder's date of birth instead, in the format DD/MM/YYYY.

Mobile ports go ahead as soon as possible, in business hours. To choose a date and time instead, ask in the request's Thread after you submit it.

A mobile port can complete in as little as an hour after it's lodged. The number appears in your project before then, so set up where its calls go as soon as you see it.

Enfonica mobile numbers are virtual, with no SIM card. After the port completes, the old SIM no longer works with that number. Calls go wherever you've set the number to send them.

13, 1300, and 1800 numbers

You port 13, 1300, and 1800 numbers with the same request. They move on a business day between 8am and 4pm Sydney time. They appear in your project as soon as the port is lodged, so you can set them up early.

A Smartnumber that's active with another provider ports the same way. If you've bought a Smartnumber that isn't active with any provider yet, it needs to be activated instead of ported. For more information, see How do 1300 and 1800 numbers work?

New Zealand and other countries

You can't request New Zealand numbers in the Console. Instead, contact support with the numbers, your current provider's details, and your latest bill. We'll send you a porting authority form to sign.

New Zealand local numbers also need a regulatory listing with a New Zealand address in your project.

For numbers in any other country, contact support. We'll let you know whether we can port them.

What happens after you submit

We take the port from here. We keep you updated in the request's Thread, and each update is also emailed to whoever created the request. We check the request against your bill and lodge the port. Then your current provider approves it.

Your numbers then appear in your project as Pending activation. Set up where each number's calls go before the cutover, which is the date and time that the numbers move. Then everything works the moment they arrive. To learn how, see Choose where calls to your number go.

For each stage of a port, see How long does a port take, and what happens on cutover day?

Keep your current service until we confirm the port is complete. A port needs an active service to move. If you cancel first, the port is likely to be rejected. Your provider then needs to reconnect the service before the port can go ahead.

Check that it worked

  1. When we confirm the port is complete, go to Phone Numbers > My numbers. Check that each number no longer shows Pending activation.
  2. Call each number from a mobile. The call follows the setup you prepared, and it appears under Cloud Voice > Calls.
  3. After every number works, cancel the ported service with your previous provider.

If calls aren't arriving, see Your numbers have ported, but calls aren't arriving.

Questions

Will my calls be interrupted while my numbers port?

No. Porting to Enfonica has zero service interruptions. Your numbers keep working with your current provider the whole way through. From the cutover, calls follow the setup you've prepared in your Enfonica project.

Why was my port rejected?

We pass on your current provider's reason in the request's thread. Most rejections come down to a detail that doesn't match the provider's records, and each one has a fix. For each reason and its fix, see Why was my port rejected?

Can I cancel a port request?

Yes. Open the request, select the menu at the top right, and then select Request cancellation. Cancellation isn't immediate, so a port that's close to its cutover might complete before the cancellation is processed.

What to send us

Include these so we can check the port.
