How-to guide

Switch your business phones and SMS to Enfonica

Short answer

Set up Enfonica first, and switch last. Connect your phone system, and test it with a new Enfonica number. Then request the port, and set up each number before it moves. Cancel your old service only after we confirm that the port is complete. Your numbers keep working the whole way through.

Your switching checklist

Set up and test everything first, and move your numbers last. That way, the only thing that changes on cutover day is where your numbers' calls arrive. Until then, your numbers keep working with your current provider.

To switch to Enfonica:

  1. Get your Enfonica account and a project. Your numbers, SIP domains, and sender IDs live in a project in the Enfonica Console. If you're new to Enfonica, talk to our sales team to get started.
  2. Add a regulatory listing. It records the business or person who uses the numbers. Every Australian local and mobile number needs one, including numbers you port. For more information, see What is a regulatory listing?
  3. Connect your phone system. Create a SIP domain in Cloud SIP. It's ready instantly. Then point your PBX at it, by using Connect your PBX to Cloud SIP or the guide for 3CX. For Microsoft Teams, use Teams Direct Routing. If you don't use a phone system, Flow can route calls by time of day, play a menu, and take voicemail.
  4. Test it with a new Enfonica number. Buy a number in the Console, send its calls to your phone system, and make test calls in and out. Anything that needs fixing shows up now, while your real numbers are still with your current provider.
  5. Request the port. It takes about two minutes in the Console. You need a recent bill from your current provider, and you enter its details exactly as the bill shows them. To learn how, see Port your phone numbers to Enfonica.
  6. Set up each number before it moves. Your numbers appear in your project as Pending activation before the cutover. Give each one an incoming call handler, and add it to your phone system's inbound rules in full international format, such as +61255501234.
  7. Test on cutover day. After we confirm that the port is complete, call each number from a mobile. For the timing for each type of number, see What happens on cutover day.
  8. Cancel your old service last. Cancel it after we've confirmed that the port is complete and your test calls arrive through Enfonica. A port needs an active service, so canceling earlier can stop the port from going ahead.

Moving your SMS

If you send SMS from a business name, such as ACMECorp, register that sender ID with Enfonica before you start sending through us.

Sender IDs on Australia's SMS Sender ID Register are authorized per provider, so a registration with your current provider doesn't cover Enfonica. Enfonica blocks messages to Australian numbers from sender IDs that aren't registered to your project. To learn how to register, see Register an alphanumeric sender ID.

If you send and receive SMS on a mobile number, port it like any other number. Enfonica mobile numbers handle both calls and SMS.

Moving Microsoft Teams calling

With Teams Direct Routing, your team keeps calling from Microsoft Teams. Your numbers move to Enfonica the same way as any other port.

You stay in control of your Microsoft 365. Your IT team or MSP sets up Direct Routing, so Enfonica never needs admin access to your tenant. Connect Teams, and test it with a new Enfonica number before you request the port, as in steps 3 and 4.

If you're moving from Telstra Calling for Office 365, which closes on 30 November 2026, see Telstra Calling for Office 365 is ending.

Bringing a client over

If you're an MSP moving a client to Enfonica, follow the same checklist in your client's project. The regulatory listing, the port's entity details, and the bill are all your client's. You can be the authorized contact on the port request. To learn how, see Port your phone numbers to Enfonica.

To send SMS from your client's business name, register the sender ID with your client's details, because the confirmation comes from their side.

Check that it worked

  1. Under Phone Numbers > My numbers, check that none of your numbers shows Pending activation.
  2. Call each number from a mobile, and check that it rings where you expect. The call appears under Cloud Voice > Calls.
  3. Make an outbound call from your phone system, and check that the person you call sees the right number.
  4. If you send SMS, send a test message, and check that it arrives from the right sender.

After everything works, cancel your old service. If calls aren't arriving, see Your numbers have ported, but calls aren't arriving.
